THE ARTIST

Hamilton Sánchez, better acquainted in the musical industry as “Hamilton”, was born in Puerto Rico, and since the age of 3, he knew he was destined to become a musician. At the age of 11, he enrolls in the “ Escuela Libre De Musica” of his hometown, becoming the most popular saxophone students. His professor, Pedro Luis Jimenez, always knew that Hamilton was going to be a virtuous musician – one of a kind! His talent was such, that in less than 2 years, Hamilton was enrolled by his professor in the “Escuela Libre de Musica” of San Juan, where he took advanced classes with renowned professor Leslie Lopez, who then referred him to El Maestro Lito Peña. At the age of 14, he begins his professional career as a musician, becoming the lead alto saxophone player for the “Taller De Jazz” , under the direction of Andres “Maco” Torres. In 1982, he went to Connecticut to join the Hart Conservatory, where he concentrates in Music Performance, under the wing of his professor, Jackie Mclean.

After enjoying an extremely successful career as a professional musician in the genre of Jazz and Jazz Latino, being lead Alto Sax player for artists such as “El Maestro” Tito Puente and Giovanni Hidalgo; as well as performing with internationally well known artists such as Hilton Ruiz, Red Rodney, and others; and after a successful career in the Salsa genre as the Musical Director for artists such as Marvin Santiago, Domingo Quiñones among others, in the year 2000 this talented young artist took upon himself the task of resurrecting the “Traditional Salsa” rhythm of the 70's, 80's, and early 90's. He took original compositions from these eras and enriched the harmony of each of the compositions with his own original musical arrangements, ~ and the result…the creation of the most explosive “Salsa” concert ever seen in history of Traditional Salsa “Hamilton Y Las Estrellas Del Pueblo”. The objective; pay tribute to “La Salsa Clasica”, which marked a very significant style of musical interpretation, giving a turning point in the entertainment industry and changed the course of Latin music forever! The cultural-historical value of this concert and its concept was truly priceless!

Today while keeping a very busy schedule with his band, He brings to us his latest creation in the genre of Jazz...the album, “MY SOUL ”. This amazing project is the result and reflection of a transition period in his life as a professional musician and as a human being. This project compiles original musical compositions showcasing the great influence Hamilton has had from many years of exploring and testing the limits of the techniques on his instrument (the saxophone), and the many years of exposure to the genres of Classical, Jazz, and Latin music. His Music, His Life, His Soul...are all expressed through Hamilton’s remarkable execution of the Saxophone and breathtaking interpretations.
