Bronx-based vocal group that enjoyed a string of national hits from 1958 to 1960 with Dion DiMucci as lead singer, under the name Dion & the Belmonts. After Dion went solo, the Belmonts carried on as a trio and managed six more chart entries in the early '60s. Carlo Mastrangelo (b.1938 10 05, Bronx, NY) sang lead on the group's first and biggest post-Dion hit in 1961 on the Sabrina label, "Tell Me Why" (#18). The group also included Angelo D'Aleo (b.1940 02 03, Bronx, NY) and Freddie Milano (b.1939 08 22, Bronx, NY). Mastrangelo was replaced by Frank Lyndon in May 1962. The Belmonts staged reunions with Dion in 1967, 1972, and 1973. The Belmonts returned to the charts in the company of Freddy Cannon in 1981 with "Let's Put the Fun Back in Rock N Roll."
