"One of the most underrated musicians in the history of African music, Orlando
Julius is the man who composed the mighty 'Going Back To My Roots' and gave
James Brown 100% of the inspiration for 'I Got You (I Feel Good)'. He spent many
years in the US working alongside Hugh Masekela, Lamont Dozier and The
Crusaders, among others, but is best known in his homeland for one classic album
-- Super Afro Soul from 1966. Using funk rhythm structures way before their
time, and inspired by Otis Redding and the Atlantic soul sound, Julius cooks up
a killer high life fusion with a host of memorable melodies. Go straight to
'Efoye So', 'Ise Owo' and 'Ijo Soul' (the tune that inspired 'I Got You',
released over a year later) to hear exactly where James Brown took his
influence. There's even a photo in our package of Brown taking the album from
Julius as proof. Watch out too for a great cover of The Temptations' 'My Girl'.
This is the first time this album has been released anywhere outside of Nigeria
since the 1960s, and it is an essential missing link in black music history. As
a bonus, we include 4 extra tracks featured as singles around the release of the
album."
