Throughout his life, Orel Hershiser has been known as an outstanding baseball player. He has excelled at every level in which he has played and has captured baseball’s highest honors - World Series Champion, World Series, American and National League Championship Series MVP, Cy Young Award, Gold Glove Award - and has also been recognized as Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year, The Sporting News Player of the Year, Baseball America’s Pitcher of the Year, Associated Press Athlete of the Year and United Press International Comeback Player of the Year.

But those accolades only scratch the surface of who Orel Hershiser really is. During his playing days, he wasn’t just a pitcher - he was a pitching coach, a manager, a general manager, an all-around professor of the game. Yet his wisdom far exceeds the baseball diamond. He has transformed his wealth of knowledge and applied it to his every day life to make a difference in many people’s lives.

A devout Christian, he ironically earned the nickname “Bulldog” for his tenacity and mental toughness. In times of distress, Orel turns to hymns of Christian music for solace and strength.

A loving family man to his wife and children, his love and gratitude reach far beyond his immediate family as he has always been willing to extend himself to others in a time of need. He has been heavily involved in many charities, including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Harambee Preparatory School in Los Angeles.

Orel has transcribed his baseball and life experiences in his own words in Out of the Blue, a unique sports autobiography. He is a sought after motivational and Christian speaker.
