The media has dubbed Mel Stewart daring, inspiring, innovative, and engaging. A two-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer, Stewart first swam competitively at the age of four and predicted his Olympic achievements to local reporters at age 10. As a top-level competitor in the 200 meter butterfly, Stewart was devastated by his fifth-place finish in the 1988 Olympics. It was the last time he would lose in that event for six years. Stewart used his 1988 defeat as a motivator and went on to win twelve consecutive National titles and three Olympic medals (two golds and one bronze). Today, he is a sports reporter for ESPN's Sports Center and a color analyst for ABC's Wide World of Sports. He is also a popular speaker for groups ranging from audiences of twenty to conventions of thousands.
