At 35, Joe Rogers is one of the youngest Lieutenant Governors in the Country. On January 12, 1999, Joe Rogers was sworn in as Colorado's 41st Lieutenant Governor. He won an impressive 61 of the state's 63 counties in the Republican primary election. He is presently the only African American to serve as a Governor or Lieutenant Governor in the United States. As such, he is the highest ranking African American elected official in the United States.
As Lieutenant Governor of Colorado, Joe Rogers is Chairman of the newly formed National Conference of Lieutenant Governors.
