Gene Stallings has compiled one of the most impressive coaching records in professional football. He began as an assistant coach at Alabama in 1958, and in 1965, he returned to his alma mater, Texas A & M, for his first head coaching job. In 1972, Stallings took his career to the professional ranks when he joined Tom Landry and the Dallas Cowboys. In 1986, he made his NFL head coaching debut with the Saint Louis Cardinals. He returned to Alabama in 1990, and in his seven years as head coach he led the Tide to five bowl appearances, winning four. In only his third season, 1992, Stallings and his staff produced Alabama's first perfect regular season since 1979 by going 12-0. Off the field, Stallings has given countless hours to community charities and has raised a great deal of money for organizations working with children with Downs syndrome and other disabilities
