You can't get any more decorated in the WNBA than Cynthia Cooper. Her basketball resume reads more like a wish list than an actual bio: Two-time WNBA MVP, four-time WNBA champion with the Houston Comets, MVP of the Championship series all four years she played, All-WNBA first team honors all four seasons, All-Star every year the game was played during her WNBA career. Until the 2001 season, Cooper was also the WNBA's leading scorer and single-game and season scoring record holder. Cooper started every game she played in the WNBA and missed only two during a career in which she was the first player in WNBA history to reach the 300, 400, 500, 1,000, 2,000, and 2,500-point plateaus before taking her WNBA career to a new level as head coach of the Phoenix Mercury. However decorated Cooper becomes, she always leaves room for one of her most important decorations -- her pink ribbon. When Cynthia's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997, she took charge of her care, making frequest trips back and forth to chemotherapy, and checking in with her after every Comets game. Cynthia's mom and hero, Mary Cobbs, succumbed to breast cancer in February of 1999.

In her mother's honor, Cooper founded the Mary Cobbs "Building Dream" Foundation which helps raise funds for breast cancer research. Cooper also decided to start a family of her own, marrying her new husband in April 2001.
