From the first moment you spin the opening track of Rome’s new CD, “Do It”, it’s clear that Rome has been busy honing his craft since his 1997 platinum debut hit single, “I Belong To You”. “I Was Wrong”, the new CD’s opening foray, is a heart felt ballad, evoking the confessionary self-exploration of Marvin Gaye and Al Green. But singer/songwriter/producer Rome merely uses the foundation of classic R&B as the fertile ground from which to cultivate a sound that’s distinctly his own. Many of the songs on this album ride the smooth groove of the romantic; but just when you think you’ve pegged Rome as a sensual song master, he hits you with a mid-tempo head turner like the album’s title track, “Do It”, and the even nastier “Baby Let’s Ride”. Skillfully threading Hip Hop, Rap, Pop, and Soul, Rome blends the traditional with the contemporary and the melodic with the rhythmic to create something that is paradoxically familiar yet unique, sensual yet energized. But there is one element that is universal to all the tracks – and that’s Rome’s velvet, textured voice. It’s a voice that can inspire romantic love as in “Take A Tour”, spiritual awareness as in “Trust In Somebody”, or just pure funky pride as in the addictive “Keeping It In The Hood”.

Rome burst onto the scene with his self-titled debut album on RCA Records, which proved his skill as an R&B balladeer of great popularity and versatility. The album’s hit single, “I Belong To You”, rocketed up the R&B charts, and both the single and the album went platinum within a year, selling over 1,000,000 units. The effort won the Benton Harbor, Michigan, native several coveted awards, including “Best R&B Artist of 1997” from the City of Detroit, and “Outstanding R&B Artist” at the California Music Awards. But that was then and this is now. Rome has re-emerged with a tour-de-force collection of tracks -- many self-penned -- that reflect his maturity, mastery of multiple musical genres and a real knack for finding songs that work for his unmistakable voice. For “Do It”, Rome collaborated with several of today’s most sought-after producers, include Moe Styles, of Top Squad Music, James Macon of Unlimited wealth Entertainment, Victor Merrit and Gerald Baillergeua of Eight Street Productions, Dominique Wilson of Third Eye Entertainment, Mathew Kyle of Beware Productions, and Rick and Patrick Harris of RPD Music. The result is a musical compilation that strikes the right mood in the intimate glow of candlelight, the electric atmosphere of a Saturday night party, or even when daydreaming on a long drive home. Only one thing’s for certain. Rome is for Lovers.
