Steve Landesberg
Landesberg, 51, has been doing stand-up since 1969. He was among the comedians and musical entertainers who were regulars at the original Improvisation club in New York City. For Landesberg, success and public recognition came relatively quickly. He did his first "Tonight" show in December, 1971. "Before that I worked in a lot of hotels, as an assistant credit manager. That's part clerk, cop and manager. To check out scam artists and bad credit cards, that was my early police training to train for playing a fictional cop." For Landesberg, success and public recognition came relatively quickly. He did his first "Tonight" show in December, 1971. A blur of plays come to his mind when he thinks of his post-"Miller" career stops in Michigan. "I did 'God's Favorite' with Pat Paulsen in Muskegon. In Traverse City I did 'Same Time Next Year.' In Birmingham I did 'Hold Me,' a Jules Feiffer play. I did "The Great American Talk Festival," -- not a play but just people talking -- at the Jerry Ford Field House in Grand Rapids. I did that with Letterman, David Brenner, Pearl Bailey, Vincent Price, William F. Buckley -- Gerald Ford, too. Lots of people. I remember their names because I had a T-shirt from it, with all the names on it." | ||||||||
