Ray Benson, hailed as the post-modern king of western swing, is the 9-time Grammy™-winning leader of Asleep at the Wheel. Having won Grammys™ in each of the last four decades over the band's thirty-plus years in the music business, and working with the likes of Bob Dylan, George Strait and the Dixie Chicks, the Wheel has become a Texas institution. And now, 45 years after writing his first song, Benson releases this June his first solo effort, defining a new personal depth as a writer, a singer and an interpreter of a wide range of musical influences he has explored all these years.

The genre-defying collection features guest appearances by Dolly Parton, Stanley Jordan, Delbert McClinton, Flaco Jimenez and many others. Ray draws almost entirely on songs he’s written, one as early as 1978 and another co-authored with Willie Nelson just last year.

Recently designated the “2004 Texas State Musician,” the winner of regional Emmy and Addy awards, Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music award nominee, founding member of the Rhythm & Blues Foundation, board member of KLRU/Austin City Limits, host of the CMT TV special “Stars over Texas,” Benson adds another notch to his belt with the stunning “Beyond Time,” an enlightening and fresh new perspective on a career defined by integrity and commitment to the music in a world of right here, right now and gone.
