LaRita is a native of Washington, D.C.and comes from a rich music family who were well known among their circle of fans in Lenoire County North Carolina; they were "The Gaskins Singers"during the late 1930s and 40s before she was born. Her father, Rudy Gaskins, was an avid lover of jazz and gospel in her household but mostly jazz. His love of music and playing the piano provided a rich environment for his children to engage music; an upright piano and later a fender rhodes and drum set in the basement; her aunts were professional singers in the music industry known as Barbara and Brenda and later one aunt Barbara Gaskins became the stage name Barbara Roy of the 70s group Ecstasy Passion and Pain. In the late 1980s LaRita hooked up with her cousin, Jocelyn Brown, in New York, where LaRita lived with her young son, Ricardo Bundy and worked as a background singer for many well known artist while raising him as a single mom, yet continuing her solo work as well.

This artistic journey of LaRita's life is expanding today another level of her musical imagination as she experiment with sound and lyrical content; she never left being the time before... when she was barely a budding teenager creating her own music.

Today, LaRita keeps the creativity of pursuits moving. Her latest song, "Funk in De Pocket, written by her and produced by smooth jazz musician, Bob Baldwin is currently available on CDBaby.com, Itunes, Amazon and more. LaRita now garners the respect of not only friends and family but radio Deejays across the globe and with the expansion of the internet, she is meeting people from around the world who enjoy "Funk in De Pocket." LaRita, a somewhat shy lady, was actually pushed into doing her own music more by a wonderful music partner and friend. The response has been very good from listeners and the momentum is growing.. LaRita's unique music style is definitely her own and it tells the world , it aint over for the adult contemporary soulful singer that is continuing to serve what music is to the soul -- a good thing!
