Deeray was literally "born" into country music. Being
the Stepson of the Legendary Lefty Frizzell.
Deerays earliest memory is of Johnny Cash coming to
his home, sometimes staying a couple of days at a time.
Dee started playing guitar, and Lefty hired him to play
at the Longhorn Ballroom. Lefty encouraged him to
play fiddle and sing. Lefty stated that Dee was a
"natural" It was shortly afterwards that Lefty asked
Dee to meet him in Los Angeles.
Dee won the award for "up and coming artist" in 1996.
Dee was contracted to preform with major artists such
as Johnny Russell, Freddy Hart, Jean Sheppard, and
Johnny Rodriquez. Many of them would invite Dee to
open their shows. In 1979, Dee landed a position with
John Conlee (from "Rose Colored Glasses" , "Backside
of Thirty" and "Miss Emily's Picture" Fame) where he
played both fiddle and guitar.
Later he traveled with "Mel Tillis and the Statesiders" .
He became friends with Johnny Rodriquez through the
band that he was playing with called "Broken Spoke".
He went to a sound check, where Rodriquez overheard
Dee singing his songs. He asked him if he would like to
play with them. Dee became a regular on Johnny's
shows. Dee later
went to LA to work for AI Bruno, a Grammy Award
winning guitarist. Dee worked for Bruno for the
following year and half. Dee has also worked for or has
played with: Jody Miller, Freddy Hart, 12 Gauge, and
numerous other artists such as Mel McDaniel, Buck
Owens, John Anderson, Exile, shenandoah, Gene
Watson, Sammy Kershaw, Eddie Raven, Becky
Hobbs, Holly Dunn, Confederate Railroad and Many
